“Harvey is a six foot three-and-a-half invisible rabbit,” explains James Dreyfus, “or a pooka, as he’s known, which is an invisible, fabled character.” Dreyfus, who’s best known from hit TV?series Gimme Gimme Gimme and The Thin Blue Line, takes top billing in this new adaptation of Mary Chase’s famous Broadway play - which was even more famously made into a James Stewart movie in 1950. “Harvey is whoever you imagine him to be,” continues, James, “but in the case of Elwood P Dowd, the character I’m playing, Harvey is his best friend. He met him leaning against a lamp post one day and has been with him ever since.” James is joined in the cast by Maureen Lipman, and is very much looking forward to sharing stage-space with her. “Maureen’s such a great name to be performing alongside,” he says. “We were all very excited when we heard she was on board. She’s a bit of a legend and we’re very lucky.”

Harvey shows at The REP, Birmingham, from Fri 6 to Sat 21 February and we've joined with the theatre to offer readers the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the 7.30pm performance on the Sat7 February.
