Soweto Kinch is best known, of course, for his brilliant musicianship. He’s a major player on both the British jazz and hip-hop scenes, so this latest venture constitutes a significant creative departure for the award-winning alto-saxophonist. Inspired by The Seven Deadly Sins and Dante’s Inferno, The Legend Of Mike Smith is a staged performance of Kinch’s latest album, bringing together jazz improvisation, a driving hip-hop score, choreography from Jonzi D, animated visuals and dance. At the centre of its story is the young, aspiring MC of the title, a man who finds himself caught up in a fast and furious world of temptation, a place where the boundaries of reality and fantasy frequently come into dramatic collision with one another...
