ER Braithwaite’s novel is best known from its 1967 film version, which saw Hollywood heavyweight Sidney Poitier crossing the Atlantic to star as a black rookie teacher trying to make a difference in a rough East End school. Lulu co-starred as one of the students, and enjoyed a massive hit with the movie’s title track. The film version had a real Swinging London feel about it; by contrast, this new stage adaptation has been set in the austere post-war period of the late-1940s, and is suitably peppered with songs and dance from the era. To Sir, With Love shows at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre from Tues 22 to Sat 26 October and we've joined with the theatre to offer readers the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the opening night performance on Tues 22 October.
