When University of Sheffield Professor of Music Fay Hield isn’t researching music, she’s actually making it. Bringing new arrangements to old songs, folk singer Fay launched debut album Looking Glass back in 2010 and has since released a further four records. One of them, The Full English, saw her bring together seven of the country’s top interpreters of traditional song, including Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson and Nancy Kerr. Given the sheer quality of the ensemble, it was no surprise to anybody when they were named ‘best group’ at the coveted BBC Radio Two Folk Awards.
They picked up the ‘best album’ prize too, just for good measure.
