Birmingham Museums Trust is offering a host of events to keep families entertained this October half-term, many with a Halloween twist.

Look for spooky science fun at Thinktank, as the museum stays open late for Museums at Night on 31 October, plus there’s fun through the week with live science experiments, a spider string maze to explore, the chance to make shadow puppets and a Halloween-themed stay-and-play session for pre-schoolers at MiniBrum.

Sarehole Mill hosts its popular pumpkin flotilla between 27-29 October, and families can also join a Spooky Mill Tour and learn about the ghosts hiding in the rafters. Creative youngsters may enjoy the Spooky Comic Book Workshop on 1 November, a two-hour session that guides you through the fundamentals of storytelling and comic book tecniques.

Blakesley Hall is host to a Halloween Kids Disco on Sunday 29 October, with music, fun and games hosted by DJ Sam. There’s also Halloween-themed crafting in the barn on Thursday 2 November, where children came made card wizard lanterns to take home.

Also on 2 November, the Pop-up Planetarium – an amazing inflatable planetarium - sets up at Blakesley for an exciting immersive experience, and why not join the Ghost Hunting Academy on 3 November for a light-hearted look at the paranormal in a family-friendly tour. As we approach Bonfire Night, Blakesley Hall offers the chance to learn about the Gunpowder Plot, with a family activity trail on Saturday 4 November.

Not to be out-done, Aston Hall’oween on Saturday 28 October is a day packed with ghoulish spirit. Meet the witch hunter as he prowls Aston Hall, have a chat with the wise woman and meet the man of science and medicine as he speaks about the nature of the universe. Aston Hall is known as one of the most haunted buildings in Birmingham, so why not join the Ghost Hunting Academy on Wednesday 1 November, or take a Family Friendly Ghost Tour on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 November, and hear some of the most well-known of Aston’s ghost stories.

Finally, join the Halloween Trail and Craft at Weoley Castle on 31 October, and explore the ruins with a kids Halloween trail.
