Step into the past at Shugborough's working estate, where visitors can observe historic costumed characters going about traditional crafts, including cheese-making, dolly-pegging and mangling! Set in nine hundred acres of stunning parkland and riverside gardens, Shugborough offers a family day out packed with living history. Take a journey back in time at the two hundred-year-old farmstead, where the baker always needs a hand baking for the hungry estate workers. Or you can roll up your sleeves and help out in the dairy before meeting the miller, who’ll be happy to show off his working water mill. Then there are the rare breeds and their newborns to enjoy, before taking a fun ride on Lucy the Train to the Servants’ Quarters, where the head cook will be waiting to make sure visitors’ nails are clean and their hair tidy before they’re set to work! There’s also an historic Walled Garden, recently reopened after one hundred years, where costumed gardeners, bearing the same names as those who actually worked in the area two hundred years ago, chat to visitors as they plant up the beds using historically accurate tools.
