One of the Midlands’ most popular theatres, the Grand first opened its doors in 1894. The theatre as it is nowadays retains many links with the past but has also been brought into the twenty-first century courtesy of an £8million refurbishment. During the course of the average year, the venue plays host to a wide range of touring comedies, dramas and musicals, and also presents a number of concerts and comedy nights. It has also been, for many years, the Midlands home of the Charles Vance Summer Repertory Season, a programme of plays designed to provide summertime theatregoers with the chance to enjoy an afternoon or evening’s entertainment at lower-than-average prices. The Grand is also well known for its pantomime tradition, and regularly attracts big-name performers over the festive season.
