Photographer David Buss’s exhibition demonstrates that bicycles are used not only as a means of transport, but also for other often surprising purposes, whether that be as an object to personalise, a memorial (known as ‘ghost bikes’), an artwork, a status symbol, a signifier or an item of nostalgia.
The exhibition’s title comes from David’s use of a white bicycle as a recurring motif in his photographs; sometimes as a major element of the image, on other occasions simply as an incidental fragment.
The show has been mounted to coincide with Velo Birmingham, a major cycling event taking place in and around the city on Sunday 12 May.
