Featuring Robin Bigwood (harpsichord)

JS Bach Partita No. 6
JS Bach Partita No. 5

To inaugurate the restoration of the Conservatoire’s Michael Mietke harpsichord, Robin Bigwood performs two of JS Bach’s monumental Partitas for solo harpsichord.

As a harpsichord soloist and continuo player (and sometimes also at the organ and piano) Robin has performed across the UK and Europe, in the USA and in Japan. He is a regular member of Passacaglia, La Serenissima and Feinstein Ensemble, and through those ensembles has formed a special connection with 18th century French chamber repertoire, Vivaldi and the wider Venetian baroque, and a vast range of works by J S Bach: the cantatas and other sacred works, instrumental sonatas, and all the solo and double keyboard concertos.

Alongside work in the classical sphere, Robin is a respected music technologist. His work includes production and engineering of dozens of albums in classical and other genres, writing (since 2001) for the industry magazine Sound on Sound, and from 2018-2022 directing the electronic band Art of Moog, which played Bach on synthesizers.

As part of RBC Harpsichord Day also featuring Introduction to Harpsichord Maintenance with Andrew Wooderston and an evening concert featuring Conservatoire musicians performing repertoire from the 16th to 18th centuries.
