This Fabien Gabel-conducted concert kick-starts with ballet music from Idomeneo,  Mozart’s story of kings, queens and gods. The evening is brought to a close by Shostakovich’s ninth symphony, a work which has been described as going from sprightly to feverish to downright raucous.
The programme is completed by Mozart’s Concerto For Bassoon - featuring the CBSO’s Nikolaj Henriques - and the UK premiere of Mark Simpson’s Concertino For Trumpet & Orchestra, performed by the CBSO’s Jason Lewis.
