Edvard Grieg’s only concerto was famously brought to the wider public attention by a nowadays oft-repeated sketch from the 1971 Morecambe & Wise Christmas Show. During the sketch, Andre Previn (or Andrew Preview, as Eric & Ernie repeatedly referred to him throughout) attempted to conduct the work despite an unhelpful musical contribution from Eric, who claimed he was “playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order”.
Sibelius’ Pohjola’s Daughter and Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony complete the programme. Tabita Berglund conducts; the pianist is Paul Lewis.
