Believe in Balsall Heath is a transformative community arts and heritage initiative created by local organisations to celebrate the people, culture and history of Balsall Heath. Following the 750th anniversary of the area in 2025, everyone is invited to honour its rich heritage and vibrant diversity.

Part of the project is a series of new street-based artworks to be exhibited across Balsall Heath, inspired by the area’s rich history, culture and heritage. Birmingham artist Faisal Hussain was commissioned to produce artwork which will be displayed on 24 banners installed on Moseley Road, Edward Road and Clifton Road. Hussain’s 5 designs are inspired by the artist’s consultation with local organisations and residents.

The banners will be in place for 2 years and launch on Saturday 12 September as part of Balsall Heath Second Saturday. There will also be a celebration, from 12-2pm, at MIAH Foundation - this event includes an opportunity to meet Faisal Hussain, hear about the inspiration behind his designs, and enjoy music from the collection of Balsall Heath-based record label, Oriental Star Agencies. Balsall Heath Second Saturday is a monthly mini-festival celebrating making, creativity, community, local culture and the arts - which takes place on the second Saturday of each month. This month's event includes beginner's bookbinding, family workshops, and the return of the Seeing Rhonda exhibition, which celebrates Birmingham photographer Rhonda Wilson, and this weekend is accompanied by a Zine-making workshop.
