Students from Birmingham City University will brush shoulders with such iconic brands as Burberry, Simone Rocha and Roksanda this September after being invited to showcase at London Fashion Week.
The remarkable achievement, which highlights the University’s growing influence in fashion education, has been described as “groundbreaking” and “pivotal” by Lee Lapthorne, BCU’s Interim Head of Fashion and Design.
“I’m extremely excited for our staff and students,” he added.
“I have a long history with London Fashion Week, having supported emerging talents like JW Anderson, Roksanda and Mark Fast, who will all be showcasing this year.
“This is a major platform – and BCU deserves to be there.
“We are also the only University presenting at September’s event, which is testament to the bold creativity, innovation, and tireless work of our students, alumni, and staff.”
Organised by the British Fashion Council and presented by 1664 Blanc, LFW will take place from Thursday 18 to Monday 22 September 2025.
This year’s schedule features both legendary and emerging names, including Burberry, Simone Rocha, Roksanda, Fashion East, Aaron Esh and Tolu Coker.
Joseph Turvey, BA Fashion Design Course Director and BCU graduate, said the opportunity to present at LFW was incredibly significant.
“From my own experience of showing at London Fashion Week, I know how transformative such exposure can be,” he said.
“The invitation to showcase is the result of years of dedication from students, graduates, and staff, as well as a strategic effort to spotlight the Midlands as a region rich in design talent.
"The Midlands has long been known for its contribution to textile production and artisanal skills - from Birmingham’s fine tailoring to regional expertise in leatherwork and metalcraft.
“Now our students have the platform to share that story with the world.”
BCU will open LFW with a two-hour presentation on Thursday 18 September. For more information on LFW, visit: londonfashionweek.co.uk
