A team of cyclists will set off from Hampton-in-Arden on 16 May, embarking on a four-day, 240-mile journey to Amsterdam organised by the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust and The Hampton Health & Fitness Club.
This inspiring challenge starts during Mental Health Awareness Week and marks both the 20th anniversary of The Hampton and a significant fundraising effort for mental health initiatives.
The charity was established in memory of Cameron Grant, who tragically took his own life in 2014 at the age of 21. A third-year geology student, Cameron’s struggles remained hidden, highlighting the urgent need for open conversations about mental health. His parents, Evan and Carol Grant, founded the Trust with his brother Alastair to ensure thsqat no one suffers in silence. Their message is clear: “There’s always someone you can talk to.”
Evan Grant, who is now retired from mental health charity, Living Well UK, one of the organisations sponsoring the ride, will be among those tackling the ride. The cyclists will cover approximately 60 miles each day, with stops arranged by Red Fox Cycling. The route takes them through Corby and Cambridge before reaching the overnight ferry from Harwich, with the final stretch culminating in Amsterdam on 19th May.
Ben Howells, CEO at Living Well UK stated his excitement on supporting the bike ride: 'We are incredibly proud to support the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust on this meaningful bike ride. Mental health awareness and access to support are at the heart of what we do, and this ride is a powerful way to spark conversations and encourage people to reach out when they need help.
The dedication of everyone taking part is truly inspiring, and we hope their efforts will continue to help break down stigma around mental health support and show people that this is a battle anybody can face."
Funds raised from the ride will go towards sustaining these initiatives and supporting grassroots mental health charities.
Evan Grant shared his anticipation for the challenge, saying:“Taking on this ride with Alastair, my son, and 31 other incredible cyclists is both exciting and deeply meaningful. We will cycle from Hampton-in-Arden where Cameron was born to Amsterdam where Alastair lives. It’s not just about the miles we’ll cover, but about the conversations we’ll start and the awareness we’ll raise along the way.
For me, my family, and our community, this journey is a tribute to Cameron and a reminder that support is always available. Seeing so many people come together for this cause is truly moving, and I know that every pedal stroke will make a difference.”
