The National Theatre is to screen David Hare’s critically acclaimed play Skylight at numerous cinemas and theatres across the UK this month.
The Olivier Award-winning production first premiered in 1995 and was then revived at Wyndham’s Theatre in 2014, with Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy starring in the lead roles. In 2015, the production won a Tony Award for best revival of a play.
The story follows the relationship between school teacher Kyra (Mulligan) and her former lover (Nighy). An unexpected visit from the latter sees the couple attempt to rekindle their relationship, only to find themselves locked in a battle of opposing ideologies, and mutual desires.
Skylight was previously broadcast to UK cinemas in 2014 as part of a former National Theatre Live initiative, and became one of the highest grossing NT Live titles of all time, having been seen by more than 115,000 people nationwide.
National Theatre Live’s latest screening of the play can be accessed at venues across the Midlands - including Midlands Arts Centre, Warwick Arts Centre and Roses Theatre Tewkesbury - on Thursday 16 November.
