Spring is in full swing in Digbeth, and with it has blossomed countless new business opportunities in the Zellig building.

The likes of The Goth’s Playground, Sophy’s Digbeth, Kutta and Doctor Oculus have found new homes in the former Bird’s Custard Factory building, where many independent businesses already reside.

The Goth's Playground will be a brand new alternative independent space in Digbeth’s Zelling Building for the 'weirdos' in Birmingham. Opening later this Spring, as a hub for Goth culture, it will focus on “the darker side of products from all categories.” Which means, expect to pick up anything from ritual items and Ouija boards too. The Goth’s Playground will have an in-house piercing station, and even hopes to have a permanent tarot reader too.

Meanwhile, Sophy’s Digbeth recently launched in the former Kilo Ziro spot. A new Digbeth bar that promises to serve up 'cocktails, attitude and good vibes only'. The bar has been designed to be a 'safe space' that's predominantly targeted at women, with a 'zero tolerance' policy towards harassment brought in by a female-led team.

Local optician Doctor Oculus has also launched his new store overlooking the High Street. Formerly situated on Gibb St and after a brief stint on the Lower Ground floor of Zellig, Doctor Oculus has found their forever home on the Ground Floor of Zellig, housed between House Of Thieves Tattoo and what is soon to be The Goth’s Playground. Doctor Oculus is also launching eye tests soon, but you can visit now for repairs, refurbishments or new specs and sunglasses. All of their stock is eco-friendly, environmentally conscious and incredibly stylish.

Digbeth barbers Kutta are also making the move to the Zellig building under the new guise VOLT Barbers. Promising high quality and professional barbering services, VOLT will be your one stop shop for all your fades, trims & touch ups.

Independent florist Fleur and Rebelle have also recently set up shop in Zellig. The creative floral design studio is best known for their weddings, events & workshops as well as having recent installations in Selfridges.
