Three creative writing courses are taking place this autumn, aimed at helping budding writers to start and maintain their own creative writing practice.

Life Writing teaches you how to get started with memoirs, including tricks to tell your story well, how to get started, organise your ideas and gain confidence in your work.

Writing Workshop is for anyone who want to grow as a writer, carve out a bit of space for creativity and learn with a supportive group of other writers. This one is for anyone who already writes, whether it’s fiction, scripts, poetry and non-fiction.

Grow Your Own helps you to develop and sustain a creative writing practice that works for them. It looks at the barriers that stop us writing – from social media and that important domestic job that needs doing, to bigger emotional challenges – and gets you back in touch with your creativity.

All courses are taught by B-Writing, which is the brainchild of Anna Lawrence. A former creative writing tutor at Birmingham City University, Anna is a published author and poet, and writer in residence at The Birmingham & Midland Institute. Her book, Ruby’s Spoon, tells the unlikely story of a suspected witch and a suspected mermaid who meet up in a Black Country town, published by Penguin Books. Her poems regularly turn up in journals and publications, and she’s been teaching creative writing for over 15 years.

The courses begin from 15 September 2025, lasting ten weeks. All are taught at the Birmingham & Midland Institute, in Birmingham city centre.

Courses cost £250 for ten sessions, with concessionary rates available. To book your place, click here and find out more about B-Writing at bwriting.co.uk
