Birmingham Rep has today announced a spectacular feast of family programming aimed at ages 11 and below, to join newly appointed Artistic Director, Joe Murphy’s bold new Spring 2026 season.
The Rep will once again be joining forces with Leeds Playhouse (A Thousand Splendid Suns and Small Island) and Unicorn Theatre (Anansi the Spider) to bring the world premiere production of Planet Omar to The Rep’s main stage for a limited run only (Wednesday 17 – Saturday 21 June).
Based on the beloved books by Zanib Mian, Planet Omar has been brought to life by award-winning playwright Asif Khan and director Sameena Hussain. This world premiere production is a joyful and funny celebration of empathy, identity, and resilience following the adventures of 8-year-old Omar, with a wild imagination, a big heart, and a knack for getting into trouble.
Then, just in time for the spring half term, Wise Owl Theatre’s heart-warming, family-friendly musical ‘tail’ – The Three Little Pigs will be huffing, puffing and blowing away audience members aged 4+ on Monday 16 & Tuesday 17 February in The Rep’s second largest performance space, The Studio.
From the award-winning writers of Honk! and Mary Poppins (Broadway), The Three Little Pigs brings new life to the classic story with catchy songs, clever rhymes, and heaps of humour. But it’s not all just fun and games—this version of the beloved tale has something smart to say about home, family, and the power of perseverance.
The Three Little Pigs also marks the return of legendary songwriting duo, Stiles and Drewe to The Rep’s stages after the success of Rep Original Musical, Becoming Nancy back in 2024. For one day only, (Saturday 11 April) The Rep welcomes their smallest audience members to roll up their sleeves and get immersed (and maybe a little messy) with Indefinite Articles’ Claytime.
This truly one-of-a-kind show combines hands-on play with natural clay, with the vast imaginations of children aged 4 – 6, to create a world of fabulous forms, amazing animals and morphing monsters created directly from the audience.
And as a treat for the summer holidays, The Rep will be playing host to the very best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children and their families on Thursday 30 July. Comedy Club 4 Kids is just like a normal comedy club, without the rude bits.
This hilarious comedy show is perfect for kids aged 6 and up, so while heckling isn’t exactly encouraged – it's definitely expected.
But for any adults who are starting to feel a little bit of comedy club FOMO, the UK’s premier baby friendly comedy club will also be making a pit stop at The Rep’s most intimate performance space – The Door. Bring Your Own Baby Comedy on Wednesday 13 May are welcoming parents for an afternoon of hilarious comedy, where you can relax and have a good laugh at the best comedians in the UK, without needing childcare.
