The Great Run Company, the organising team for the Great Birmingham Run and Great Birmingham 10k, has announced that it will combine the events for 2021, with a new date scheduled for Sunday 10 October.

The Great Birmingham 10k and the Great Birmingham Run are often seen as marker points for Brummies 'to reach their peak physical fitness'. Each year tens of thousands line up to run for good causes, to achieve their personal best, or even just for fun.

The 10k moving from its usual early-May date to October has left a noticeable gap in the diary. Great Run has therefore created a series of virtual running challenges to help you start the year strong and build your fitness in preparation for October.

The January Great Run Solo Accumulator encourages those taking part to 'run away from 2020'. The challenge is to complete 21 activities (run, jog, walk) of any distance in January. Described as a challenge for all abilities, participants can walk, jog, run, or do a mixture of everything - it all counts.

Complete 21 activities or more and your efforts will be rewarded with a two-in-one medal. The challenge runs until 31 January but entries close at 10am on Monday 11 January. To find out more and sign up, visit: greatrun.org/virtual-running/accumulator/january

Also available is the Great Run Solo Distance Challenge, which is designed to keep you racking up the miles over a seven or 28-day period. Participants can choose from seven miles, 50k, 100k or 150k. Reach or exceed the distance across the challenge period and your efforts will be rewarded with a medal. And with a range of distances to choose from, there is a suitable challenge for everyone.
