International Day of Birmingham took place on Wednesday 24 September 2025, with celebrations all over the city. Missed out? Don’t worry you can still check out the Images from a Road Trip exhibition at Zellig, and the Eggshibition at The Nest in the Courtyard of the Custard Factory.

In 2024, as the Lord Mayor’s chosen ambassador, Joe formed an official Treaty of Friendship with the world’s many Birminghams, thus creating the United States of Birmingham. On his travels (immortalised in the Sky series ‘Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham’) Joe discovered a shared Brummie spirit and introduced the Birminghams of North America to some cultural highlights from the Mother Brum, including custard, cobs and a Curly Wurly or two. The bringing together of the Birminghams was a chance to shout about Brum and culminated in the inaugural International Day of Birmingham.

Throughout the shooting of the show Joe Lycett, Nicola Silk and the rest of the crew, of course, took lots of photographs. These are now being displayed at Zellig until 31 October as a part of the International Day of Birmingham celebrations.

The grand opening of the exhibition saw The Lord Mayor, Joe Lycett and of course Randall from Birmingham Pennsylvania visiting the Zellig Building. Joe said ‘For anyone who has wondered what Birmingham looks like, there’s some brilliant pictures of Birmingham that me and my friends took in Birmingham, available to look at in Birmingham.’
