Birmingham’s Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival have announced Fabio & Grooverider and The Outlook Orchestra, and Jalen Ngonda, as their first two headline acts for 2026, returning from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 July 2026.
Fabio & Grooverider are the undisputed godfathers of drum'n'bass. Through their own residencies, releases and award-winning radio shows, they've championed, developed and steered the genre for over 30 years. Back after a string of sell-out dates (including London’s Royal Albert Hall in the spring), their collaboration with The Outlook Orchestra (Friday) is an exuberant celebration of the history of drum'n'bass/ jungle, with a set of classic anthems like you've never heard them before.
Following an outstanding afternoon performance at 2025's Mostly Jazz, American singer-songwriter Jalen Ngonda makes a much anticipated return to the festival – this time in a headline slot (Sunday). One of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene, Jalen’s voice - equal parts raw feeling and elegance - exudes confidence and charm.
Also appearing on the final day are fellow Daptone artistes Thee Sacred Souls. Hailing from San Diego, the breakout trio mix the easygoing grace of sweet ’60s soul with the grit and groove of early ’70s R&B.
Joining Fabio & Grooverider and Jalen over the festival weekend are Mississippi gospel disco soul family band Annie & The Caldwells, whose recent debut album, Can’t Lose My (Soul) was welcomed with a raft of five and four-star reviews, and Ryan Hope, from hitmakers Gabriels, with a special DJ set.
Award-winning Australian electronic duo Close Counters, whose diverse sound sits at the crossroads of house, neo-soul, broken beat and disco, and singer-songwriter Olive Jones, who’ll be highlighting tracks from her debut album For Mary (out in March), also appear – with further acts to be revealed in the new year.
Taking place in the idyllic surroundings of Moseley Park, the annual three-day event is a short distance away from Birmingham’s city centre, yet a world away from city life. With sloping grounds, creating a natural amphitheatre in front of the beautiful lake, it hosts some of the best jazz, funk, soul and dance artists from across the UK and further afield.
John Fell, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul’s Manager, said: “We’re delighted to reveal two of our headliners for 2026’s festival. Fabio & Grooverider are D&B royalty, and their team-up with The Outlook Orchestra demonstrates their unwavering commitment to the genre, as well as their forward-thinking attitude, while Jalen Ngonda is one of the best soul voices there is. Up there with some of the ’60s greats, Jalen’s soulful performance in 2025 blew everyone away and we can’t wait to welcome him back in what’s shaping up to be his big break-through year.”
Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival runs from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 July 2026 at Moseley Park, Birmingham. Tickets on sale from Friday 19 December 2025, 10am. For full details, see: mostlyjazz.co.uk
