New Italian restaurant Lucarelli has opened at Birmingham's Mailbox today.
Opening on the site formerly occupied by Red Peppers at the rear of the Mailbox, the decadently decorated 140 cover restaurant is set over two floors. The marble and gold interior, interspersed with mood lighting and large olive trees, makes it the perfect setting for an intimate and sophisticated dinner. With a sweeping staircase that takes you downstairs to an area suitable for larger groups.
There is also an elegant bar that is bound to be a haven for cocktail lovers; with a wine list that features a fantastic selection of Italian wines such as Barolo, Vermentino, Chianti, Fiano and Gavi di Gavi.
However, it’s the outside terrace that is the real showstopper. Covered in beautiful white flowers, surround by potted olive trees, it exudes the feel of the Italian Riviera.
Head Chef Elia Vergnano has been busy creating a tempting menu capturing the true essence of Italian cuisine; taking your taste buds on a journey around the regions of Italia.
Elia said: “Naturally I lean on my Italian heritage with my cooking. It is really important to me to always use the best, fresh ingredients and to respect the traditional Italian way of cooking. We personally select and import the highest quality Italian ingredients; it’s what really sets Lucarelli apart.”
“These are used to create authentic Italian dishes by our chefs from Italy, using traditional recipes based on their heritage, extensive experience and infused with passion to give you a truly memorable taste of Italy.”
General Manager Alessandro Meraglia adds, “Once plated, the dishes will be brought to you by our staff dedicated to provide you with prompt, attentive service together with some Italian fun! Once you have experienced the Lucarelli culinary experience, we trust that whilst "you will have arrived as a guest, you will leave as a friend".
Alongside your favourite pizzas, the Cicchetti menu includes traditional pasta recipes such as spaghetti, ravioli, penne and linguine. And for something meatier, there are dishes such as Pollo Alla Milanese (chicken in breadcrumbs), Carré D’agnello Arrosto (rack of lamb in spicy breadcrumbs), Saltimbocca all Romana (Pan-fried veal escalope with parma ham, sage and butter sauce) and the signature Lucarelli mini-burgers.
And if you’re not in the mood for meat, the seafood dishes include a wide range of fresh fish including sea bass, salmon, monkfish as well as fresh lobster.
Elia’s recommendations from the a la carte menu: “I would have to suggest starting with our Trio Bruschetta, my favourite of the three is the classic tomato with plenty of garlic. Next up would be Risotto Fontina e Salsiccia, followed by Carré D’Agnello Arrosto, which is an oven-baked rack of lamb served with rosemary roast potatoes. For dessert it would have to be the Italian classic, Tiramisu served with an espresso. Is that too much food? Never!"
