An exciting line-up of drama, musical theatre and comedy is on its way to The Alexandra in Birmingham.

There is plenty for musical fans with the spectacular Bat Out of Hell, the sensational Chicago, the smash hit Bring it On as well as Footloose and Dreamboats and Petticoats: Bringing on Back The Good Times.

Looking further ahead into 2022, the theatre hosts the brand-new musical Fisherman’s Friends, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, The Osmonds: A New Musical and the dazzling Dreamgirls sets down for Christmas 2022.

There is a monthly fix of thrilling plays for any drama enthusiasts, with Peter James’ Looking Good Dead, Fatal Attraction starring Kym Marsh and Oliver Farnworth and psychological thriller Catch Me If You. Based on the classic board game, Cluedo makes its UK premiere, and the theatre’s spring drama season concludes with epic stage thriller, The Da Vinci Code.

Comedy comes in the form of Fat Friends the Musial, Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em starring Joe Pasquale and one night only acts including Dylan Moran, Menopause the Musical, Nina Conti and Al Murray. BMOS are also set to return with Guys and Dolls, and the Alexandra’s annual Stage Experience production is back with Fame.

For toddlers to teens, there is a selection of family friendly productions on offer with The Addams Family, School of Rock, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Dragons and Mythical Beasts.

This festive season over the next few weeks sees the return of the much-loved Birmingham favourite, Jersey Boys as they work their way back to the city for a four-week run.

January 2022 sees the critically-acclaimed Bat Out of Hell bring to life the legendary anthems of Jim Steinman & Meat Loaf, combining the magic and excitement of a musical with the immense energy of rock ‘n’ roll. Paramount Pictures Corporation motion picture, James Dearden’s intoxicating new stage play of Fatal Attraction, brings the definitive movie thriller to Birmingham from Tuesday 1 - Saturday 5 March.  Starring British pop and TV sensation Kym Marsh (Hear’Say, Coronation Street, Morning Live) as the iconic Alex Forrest, soap star favourite Oliver Farnworth (Coronation Street) as Dan Gallagher and Footballer’s Wives siren Susie Amy, as Beth Gallagher.

Step through the wardrobe this spring into the magical kingdom of Narnia for the most mystical of adventures in a faraway land, with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe from Tuesday 8 - Saturday 12 March. Join Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter as they wave goodbye to wartime Britain and say hello to a talking Faun, an unforgettable Lion and the coldest, cruellest White Witch, played by Samantha Womack.

Everybody cut loose, following two critically acclaimed tours and a West End run, Footloose returns to Birmingham. Based on the 1980s screen sensation which took the world by storm, Footloose brings spirit, fun and the best in UK musical talent to The Alex from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 April, with classic 80s hits including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and the unforgettable title track Footloose.

In August 2022, The Alexandra Stage Experience returns with the smash hit musical, Fame from Wednesday 24 - Saturday 27 August. The best in West Midlands talent will take to the stage with a full-scale production of this smash hit musical, with its bittersweet and uplifting story and a score of unforgettable songs including Out Here On My Own, These Are My Children, Let’s Play A Love Scene and of course the famous theme song Fame.

With an extraordinary story and the unforgettable, spine-tingling vocals that send audiences wild, Dreamgirls will dazzle Birmingham audiences for Christmas 2022, featuring the classic songs And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, Listen, I Am Changing and One Night Only. This spectacular musical production will play from Tuesday 6 - Saturday 31 December 2022.

BMOS Musical Theatre Company also return to The Alexandra stage from Tuesday 28 June - Saturday 2 July to bring to life the fantastic and funny musical story of gambling, luck and love under the bright lights of Broadway; Guys and Dolls.

Ellen Kent’s Opera Festival brings Puccini and Bizet masterpieces to the Alexandra this season, with the passionate Tosca and dazzling Carmen, both featuring international soloists, highly praised chorus and full orchestra.

One nighter highlights this season include BAFTA and Perrier award winning comedian Dylan Moran, Sir Ranulph Fiennes: Living Dangerously and the hilarious Friends: The Musical Parody. The theatre also welcomes many stars of Strictly Come Dancing including the sensational Johannes Radebe, much-loved Anton & Giovanni and the fabulous Craig Revel Horwood.

Jersey Boys sits down for the Christmas season at the Station Street theatre this December, delving into the music and inside story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons from Tuesday 7 December - Saturday 1 January. From the streets of New Jersey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is the musical that’s too good to be true. Featuring hits including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and Working My Way Back To You.
