Following the recent news that Birmingham would be without the popular big wheel and ice rink this Christmas, a licensing application has been made which would relocate both attractions to a brand new site.

The sad news came last month when a spokesman from Birmingham City Council revealed: “Because of the major refurbishment of Centenary Square, both officers and the operator have been unable to find an alternative site large enough to accommodate the ice rink and big wheel.”

Ice Skate Birmingham have since submitted plans to move the attractions to land close to the old Curzon Street Railway Station, following the success of brand new festival Beyond The Tracks which took place there in September.

The application also covers live music, recorded music, late night refreshments and sale of alcohol and the applicant is seeking an extension until 1.30am on New Year’s Day meaning that the New Year's Eve fireworks could also be saved.

The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market will go ahead as normal. More information can be found HERE
