The publicity for The World Of Hans Zimmer promises an evening that is captivating, breathtaking and fantastically cinematic, and it certainly delivers on all those counts! The show weaves a path through the most fabulous works of this world-renowned composer, accompanied by stunning visuals and powerful sound. The fact that the music is played live adds an extra dimension to melodies usually heard on a recording, and the huge expanse of the arena just adds to the drama; it really is the perfect setting for an extravaganza of this scale.

Hans Zimmer is one of the most famous names in the world of film soundtracks. He’s composed scores for dozens of cinema hits, including The Last Emperor, Rain Man, Driving Miss Daisy, Gladiator, Pirates Of The Caribbean and the most recent James Bond film, No Time To Die. His work has been nominated for numerous Grammy and Golden Globe awards and he’s won the Oscar for Best Original Score twice, for The Lion King and Dune: Part 1.

Zimmer’s magnificent tunes are instantly recognisable to cinema-goers of all ages, with swirling melodies, crashing chords and thunderous drumbeats. The wonderful on-stage live performances by orchestra, soloists and choirs alike are the perfect vehicle to transmit the power and emotion that a show-stopping tune can bring. This music, performed against a backdrop of clips from the films, reminds us of the extent to which music can create atmosphere - what would a film be without a rousing soundtrack?

Zimmer acted as musical director and creator for this show, and while he doesn’t appear in person, we see several short on-screen recordings in which he explains something of the story behind the tunes and shares personal anecdotes from his life. On occasion, these clips come across as a bit contrived and intrude somewhat on the flow of the show, but Zimmer’s fans no doubt want to see the great man contribute to the evening and will be thrilled to see their hero on screen.

The light show is spectacular, the visuals are arresting and the performances are unfailingly high-powered. This glimpse into the world of Hans Zimmer is truly astounding.
