Set in the beautiful 90-acre Three Counties Showground, with the scenic Malvern Hills as a backdrop, the Royal Three Counties Show is a celebration of the British countryside. The show’s attractions include food & drink, craft stalls, displays, and one of the UK’s largest gatherings of animals and livestock.

The showground is flat, with easy-to-navigate pathways suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. There’s ample seating and adequate toilet and baby-changing facilities.

When I visited on the third and final day, the Sunday, we were blessed with a warm, dry day, so there were no muddy routes to navigate, and all the events in the Main Arena, including the Red Arrows Ariel Display and Parachute Team, which drew a huge cheering crowd, performed as promised.

Tastebuds were definitely tantalised by the huge array of intercontinental food & drink. Whether you fancied Greek, Italian, Indian, good old-fashioned fish & chips (sold from a bright red double-decker bus), or a hearty hot dog, they were all at your fingertips. A selection of craft beer and cider was on tap too, as well as hot and cold drinks. Plenty of sweet treats, such as crepes and ice creams, were also available - and very much enjoyed!

The Food & Drink Festival part of the event offered a number of interesting demonstrations throughout the day. I particularly enjoyed one at the live fire arena with The Beefy Boys and Kaleb Cooper (from Amazon Prime’s much-loved series Clarkson’s Farm). A significant number of eager folk queued up to try the steak that had been cooked in front of them!

You can’t attend the Royal Three Counties Show and not be impressed by the livestock and horticultural displays. Sheep sheering, horse stunt riding, double harness scurries - where pairs of ponies race at speed through an obstacle course - and a machinery demo of very large, expensive farm machinery - including tractors and combine harvesters amusingly presented by Kaleb Cooper - were just some of the activities I enjoyed watching.

A few treats ended up in my bag from the indoor food hall, to enjoy later at home. These included freshly baked warm Portuguese egg tarts from the Sunrise Patisserie, a selection of curry pastes from Mighty Spice, and a bag of deliciously sweet fudge from the Wychbold Fudge Company. Many of the companies on display were running low on stock by Sunday afternoon. It had clearly been a very successful three days for them!

There are events to look forward to throughout the year at the Three Counties Showground. These are well advertised. In particular look out for the RHS Autumn Show, taking place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September - a vibrant celebration of gardening, food and countryside life. Definitely a date to put in your diary.
