To celebrate Our Beating Heart, a dazzling light installation popping up in Snow Hill Square between Thursday 21 and Saturday 23 March, organisers have launched a romantic competition especially for loved-up people in Birmingham planning to propose.

Locals are invited to apply for the chance to win a perfectly staged, visually stunning, top-secret proposal.

The successful applicant will win the opportunity to propose to their loved one in front of the Our Beating Heart light installation and have the moment captured by a professional photographer, followed by fizz and sharing plates at Glynn Purnell’s Michelin Guide listed tapas bar Plates by Purnell’s, and a night’s stay at the luxurious Grand Hotel Birmingham, with breakfast the following morning.

Entrants can apply to win this romantic proposal by emailing info@colmorebid.co.uk saying why they think they should win. Entries must be received by midday on Monday 18 March.

Colmore BID’s romance experts will then choose a lucky winner, who will be notified same day.

With the help of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, City Curator, Alex Nicholson-Evans has joined forces with producers Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces and Colmore BID to bring Our Beating Heart to Birmingham.

Our Beating Heart is a light installation which features a giant heart-shaped mirror ball. It will reflect natural light during the day, and as the sun sets, Snow Hill Square will be transformed with fantastical dancing lights and an eye-catching wash of colour. People can witness this immersive artwork at its best from 6.30pm to 10.30pm each evening. The experience is completely free to enjoy.

Created by Studio Vertigo, the revolving sculpture features 11,000 mirrored tiles. The heart-shaped installation will create an unexpected shimmering sight on a grand scale, allowing viewers to admire thousands of rotating glints of light across Birmingham’s Snow Hill Square.

The installation is accompanied by a heart-themed disco soundtrack, and on Saturday 23 March there will be a very special one-off silent disco– free to experience and no booking required.
