The summer holidays are here, so it’s good to know that there’s plenty of fun activities and events for all the family at Tamworth Castle.

From the end of July right through to the end of August, the packed programme at the Castle allows visitors to get hands-on with lots of living history!

In July, the castle's storyteller will be in residence and is looking for help as some Castle magic has allowed the tales to escape from the Storytellers book. Come and join in the fun as we search for the lost stories - help find them and listen to their telling. Got a favourite story or character costume? Great! Come dressed up for even more fun.

Also, in July they will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the D Day Landings that started the end of World War 2. It’s a time to remember this momentous military event, but also to learn more about the period. Come and try your hand at firefighting, learn about wartime communications, have a go at decoding secret messages and meet the Billeting Officer.

The Saxons arrive in August! Check out what life was like for those living in Tamworth during Saxon times. Have a go at some archaeology, learn about the warrior princess Aethelflaed and Saxon battle tactics, then see if you can solve the runic puzzles!

August also allows you the unique opportunity to join in on a detective hunt, as there has been a murder at the Castle. Use your investigative skills to find evidence and crack clues to see if you can find the culprit. There’s a reward for all those visitors who present their findings to the sheriff in the shop.

Don’t forget the Castle is a great place to spend some time this Summer, even if you are not attending an event. You can wander through stunning, intact rooms, with displays that tell the story of this unique site from Saxon beginnings through to Victorian times.
