Arts Council England has awarded £4.6million to 630 individual artists and cultural organisations in the West Midlands via its Covid-19 Emergency Response Package.

Announced in March, the Emergency Response Package was designed to help alleviate the immediate pressures faced by artists, creative practitioners, cultural organisations, museums and libraries.

In total in the West Midlands, 459 individuals benefitted from £1,043,478 investment and 171 organisations have received £3,605,943.

Peter Knott, Area Director for Arts Council, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support the cultural sector in the West Midlands through our Emergency Response Package. Thanks to the government and National Lottery players we’re able to give vital financial support to the many people and organisations that make up our vibrant cultural sector, for whom Covid-19 has dealt a devastating blow."

The grants so far provided cover the first two elements of the Arts Council’s £160million Emergency Response Package, with decisions yet to be made for the final element.
