Over The Wall, the charity that provides free, transformative residential camps for children with serious illness, has announced that it will reopen its Staffordshire based camps in 2022.

Following the cancellation of its residential camps at Whitemoor Lakes (Lichfield) due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the charity successfully created ‘Camp in the Cloud,’ an innovative and interactive, virtual camp that engages and connects children through a range of online activities. The camp was supported by Over The Wall’s Seriously Fun Box, sent to children in the post and containing all that is needed to participate in the activities.

As well as host the new residential camps in 2022, Over The Wall will continue to provide its Camp in the Cloud, to increase the number of children it reaches, and to offer those who are unable to attend venue camps, the opportunity to access the fun and magic.

This reopening of residential camps will mean children in and around Staffordshire can once again experience activities including dancing, archery, arts & crafts, climbing, festival themed evenings, discos taking part in challenge courses and much more.

To ensure the safety of campers, Over The Wall is doing everything possible to minimise the transmission of COVID-19 and will follow Government guidelines at all times. For example, all adults attending must be fully vaccinated, and all volunteers and staff must complete a PCR test before entering camp.

Leading up to the camp reopening, the charity is also further developing Camp in the Cloud and plans to extend the online platform with new developments, details of which will be announced in coming months.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for our charity.” said Kevin Mathieson, the charity’s CEO, “By developing a combination of physical and virtual camps, we can offer residential experiences at Whitemoor Lakes once again, whilst still offering a virtual camp alternative for the children who may not be well enough or able to attend. This means we can reach so many more children with serious illness. Furthermore, those that were unable to get a place on our physical camps, can apply for Camp in the Cloud, which is fantastic news.”
