For the eighth year, Graham Witter is planning to turn his family’s home into a Winter Wonderland at Carters Green Farm in Weston, Crewe.
After such a difficult year for so many people across the local community, Graham is determined to make his drive-thru Starlit Garden a real community success.
Since 2013 Graham has dedicated hundreds of hours decorating his family home, garden and farm buildings with thousands of festive lights and decorations to raise money for The Donna Louise Hospice in memory of his sister, Jessica. Jessica, who had Cardio-facio Cutaneous syndrome, severe epilepsy and complex health needs, spent time at The Donna Louise Hospice in Trentham and Graham initially began the display to do something special for his sister.
He explained, “I began the Weston Christmas Light display in 2013 as Jessica had a fascination for colour, light and sound, so I wanted to do something special for her at Christmas. When Jessica passed away in December 2015, I pledged to continue the display in her memory and raise as much money as I could for The Donna Louise.”
Since 2013 The Weston Christmas Light Display has raised more than £124,850, with last year’s display raising £32,540 alone.
With so many restrictions in place this year, Graham faced the challenge of how to put on another community event while keeping his visitors safe. So he’s introducied a drive-thru system so that people can enjoy the light display from the safety of their own car.
Graham is also introducing, for the first time, a #NameAStar initiative, which will see 150 handmade metal stars displayed around his 20ft Christmas tree. Each star will display the name of a loved one or local hero, nominated by the local community.
#NameAStar is available now - simply email Graham at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, contact number and the name you would like on the star. There is no charge, but Graham would like to encourage a minimum donation of £10, which will then be given to The Donna Louise Hospice. Donations can be made when you visit the light display in December (cash only). Stars will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The Starlit Garden will be shining bright from 1 to 28 th December, from 6.15pm to 9pm, at Carters Green Farm, Jack Lane, Weston, Crewe. Santa will be there every Friday, Saturday & Sunday evening.
The event is not ticketed and everyone is welcome.
