Three contemporary figurative British painters - Chantal Joffe, Mark Fairnington and Matthew Krishanu - here develop the conversation initiated in Compton Verney’s Painting Childhood exhibition by depicting childhood in very different ways.

Joffe’s expressive paintings chart the growth of daughter Esme from birth to adolescence. Mark Fairnington turns a scientific eye to the depiction of his twin sons with hyper-realistic precision. Matthew Krishanu’s radiant paintings reveal memories of an exotic childhood in Bangladesh. Taken together, the works aim to present a fresh perspective on what constitutes childhood in the 21st century.
