As well as being held in high regard for their championing of new music, having presented more than 70 world premieres, the Stratford-based Orchestra of the Swan (OOTS) are also much admired for their performances of works by legendary composers. As might therefore be expected, this latest concert will see them combining the new with the familiar - and no doubt doing so to excellent effect.

Alongside their performances of compositions by Mozart, Mahler and Schubert, OOTS also present the premiere of David Matthews’ song-cycle based on Alphonse de Lamartine’s partly autobiographical poem, The Lake, for which they are joined by American-born soprano April Fredrick (pictured). The work is being presented, in conjunction with Worcester’s English Symphony Orchestra - for whom Fredrick is the first Affiliate Artist - as part of a year-long project celebrating ‘David Matthews in the Heart of England’.
