A critically acclaimed afternoon tea is to be made available via a takeaway and delivery service by a top Midlands hotel.

The Abbot’s afternoon tea, created by chefs at Coombe Abbey Hotel, was singled out for special praise by the Telegraph and will be available from Saturday 20 June.

The hotel itself remains closed, in keeping with government guidelines.

The traditional menu includes a selection of finger sandwiches, homemade scones and delicious cakes. Priced at £20 per person, it will be available to collect seven days a week, with time slots for collection pre-bookable.

All orders will be taken online, with people able to collect their food from the hotel.

There will also be a weekend delivery service available (costing £25 per person) for orders made within a 10-mile radius of the hotel.

Ron Terry, the venue's general manager, said: “The hotel is renowned for its indulgent afternoon tea, and seeing the initial response from guests, it’s clear that people across the county are looking for a traditional afternoon-tea service during lockdown.

“Many people are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions, so this service will offer people something to look forward to and enjoy as a treat.

“The 500-acre Coombe Abbey Park remains open for guests to enjoy, but we are urging people to continue following social-distancing measures. The park is the perfect place to enjoy the afternoon tea as a picnic as well!

“We look forward to welcoming back our guests once it is safe for us to do so.”
