Artists from across the region are being encouraged to take part in a competition which could see their work displayed at a major gallery and win a cash prize.
The Coventry Open returns for its eleventh year at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, giving local artists the chance to showcase their work.
Entries to the competition need to be submitted at the Herbert Art Gallery on Saturday, February 15 from 10.00am until 3.30pm and can include painting, drawing, print and sculptures, through to textiles, photography and film.
The competition welcomes regional artists in all stages of their career to submit their work and a panel of expert judges will decide which works will be highlighted from February 29 until April 19.
Once the pieces are on show, visitors will get the chance to choose their favourite piece.
This year’s judging panel includes Aidan Moesby, an artist and Associate Curator at MIMA Middlesbrough, Alexandra Blum, an Artistic Educator at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and Sylvia Theuri, an artist, researcher and curator who specialises in race and identity.
In 2018, Coventry University student Jack Foster was named by judges as the winner with his oil canvas painting ‘Kite’ earning him the £1,000 prize.
Joy Corcec, Communications Officer at Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s submissions to the Coventry Open 2020.
“This exhibition is a real treat, and the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming artists to have their work showcased to visitors.
Francis Ranford, Cultural and Creative Director added: “With Coventry City of Culture 2021 just a year away, we’re working hard to promote the region’s emerging artists. We are excited to see bold paintings, remarkable sculptures, and inventive crafts.”
