The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is offering amateur and semi-professional theatre groups, schools and colleges the opportunity to put on a play written or inspired by Shakespeare at The Dell, the Company’s open-air performance space on the banks of the River Avon in Stratford-upon-Avon, on Saturdays and Sundays throughout Summer 2020.

The Dell provides a space for groups to perform an established piece of work, or to create a new one inspired by Shakespeare, and it has already seen over 300 groups perform on its stage since it launched 12 years ago.

RSC Events Officer, Alexandra Murphy, said: “There’s something very special about performing outside in the heart of Shakespeare’s hometown. The Dell is a fantastic platform for bringing new interpretations of Shakespeare’s work to an audience of all ages, right on the banks of the River Avon. Every year audiences fall in love with the free productions and unique atmosphere that the talented amateur and semi-professional groups and companies bring to the RSC.

The RSC is a diverse and inclusive organisation, accessible, welcoming and truly representative of the population of the UK. It encourages applications from acting companies whose members have previously been under-represented within The Dell programming.

Two performance slots are available on Saturdays and Sundays at The Dell throughout July and August 2020.

Those interested in mounting a production should download The Dell 2020 Guidance Notes and Application Form, which are available from the RSC’s website

The closing date for applications is Monday 24 February 2020
