In the land of Shakespeare, it only makes sense that theatre goers from far and wide will need something sensational to eat, and quickly, before heading to a show at The Royal Shakespeare Company.  Luckily, the award-winning The Woodsman in Stratford upon Avon has put together a beautiful pre-theatre menu to satisfy the hearts and stomachs of culture lovers. Diners can two courses for £19pp or three courses for £24pp.

Set inside a beautiful 16th Century building, sat just opposite Shakespeare’s New Place and with original wooden panelling from inside Shakespeare’s home,  diners will be surrounded by rich, historical interiors perfect to begin an evening out with friends or family.

Served between 5pm-6.30pm Monday-Friday, dishes are both seasonal, British, comforting and delicious.  Begin with Salad of salt-baked swede and ragstone cheese, blackberry vinaigrette and candied walnuts; Ploughman’s terrine, piccalilli and sourdough or Jerusalem artichoke velouté, truffle mascarpone.

Continue your evening with mouth-watering dishes such as Pavé of Gloucestershire fallow deer with mash potato, smoked bone marrow, cavolo nero, peppercorn sauce and Grilled Cornish mackerel with charred gem lettuce, smoked cod roe, hazelnuts.

With a sensational pastry team at The Woodsman, dessert is an absolute must.  Apple and rhubarb crumble with custard is simply irresistible for any Brit or why not go for creamy and herbaceous Earl Grey brûlée with Garibaldi, prune and Armagnac.
