Canadian four-piece The Dead South are used to being an anomaly pretty much wherever they go.
Rising to stardom on YouTube and often referring to themselves as “Mumford And Sons’ evil twins”, the band produce music that harnesses aspects of punk, fingerpickin’ and bluegrass. In the process they take a progressive and tightly constructed approach to their acoustic output.
“Our version of bluegrass is mixed with the punk, rock and metal influences we listened to growing up,” explain the boys. “We really love the storytelling aspect of bluegrass, and we’re a bluegrass band in instrumentation; it’s just that in terms of writing songs and how we perform, we feel more like a punk or rock band.”
