“Art transcends socio-cultural boundaries,” explains Birmingham-based artist-educator De’Anne Crooks, whose New Art Gallery show explores the influence and impact of Caribbean ‘old wives tales’.

“Societal issues, such as systematic racism and the exploitation of a generation’s search for their identity, are ones that I’m desperate to address. My art is my way of having conversations about issues that are really pressing and which really matter to me.”
