Nritya: Black Country

Stories, photographs, films and objects all feature in an exhibition exploring the story of Indian dance in the Black Country.

The exhibition celebrates the development of Indian classical, folk and traditional styles between 1960 and 2000. This contributed towards establishing the British South Asian culture, enabling communities to feel proud, place value on and have ownership of their heritage and art forms.

The items, objects and memories on display have been collected from some of the pioneer dancers, teachers and choreographers who were among that first generation of innovative artists. Also, on display are photos collected from the local community. The exhibition has been curated by award-winning Wolverhampton arts organisation Jaivant Patel Dance.
