It may only be summer, but Dudley Zoo and Castle is already preparing for Christmas by launching its annual search for Santa Claus.
The popular visitor attraction is recruiting a festive figurehead to take centre stage in its castle grotto, where thousands of children and families are expected to visit during the run-up to Christmas. Successful applicants will be responsible for spreading festive cheer and helping to create a magical experience alongside a team of elves.
The role is one of the zoo’s most unusual seasonal vacancies and comes as preparations get underway for this year’s Christmas programme. The grotto, located within the grounds of the historic castle, has become a popular festive attraction for families across the Black Country and beyond.
Dudley Zoo said applications are welcome from prospective Santas with or without a beard, provided they can bring plenty of festive spirit to the role. Candidates are being asked to submit a CV to the zoo’s HR team.
The attraction has a long-standing Christmas tradition, with previous festive events drawing thousands of visitors. In 2023 alone, the zoo welcomed nearly 12,000 guests to its Santa experience, which combines a visit to Father Christmas with admission to the zoo.
Applications close on 31 July 2026, prospective Santas can apply at dudleyzoo.org.uk.
