Community arts organisation Multistory will be hosting a free, public event to celebrate one of Sandwell’s green spaces this August.
Green Roots on the Meadow will be taking place on Saturday 16 August 2025, 12pm - 2pm, behind Primark in New Square shopping centre, West Bromwich (on the corner of Walsall Street, opposite Tiny Tots Academy).
Part of Sandwell Council’s Towns Fund Urban Greening programme, Green Roots on the Meadow is being delivered by Multistory, in partnership with Sandwell Council, New Square West Bromwich and Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust. The event will bring together young people, residents, artists and partners to celebrate and steward one of Sandwell’s green spaces plus there’ll be complimentary snacks.
Returning for a second summer gathering, the celebration will highlight the ongoing care of the meadow that was planted in September 2023, and will feature the unveiling of an exciting new artwork created by local young people working with community artists.
Visitors of all ages can take part in free, drop-in art and nature-themed workshops that will explore themes of sustainability, nature and the importance of caring for our local environment. Plus enjoy live music throughout the afternoon by Bostin’ Brass and a wonderful pop-up opera performance Meadow Fest by Birmingham Opera Company at 1.30pm.
A highlight of this year’s event will be the launch of a new commission by Juneau Projects, developed in collaboration with young people from YMCA West Bromwich. This outdoor exhibition of wildlife-inspired ceramics will be installed as a trail across the Meadow, inviting people to explore and to celebrate local creativity and biodiversity.
The Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust will also be sowing seeds on the meadow and offering seeds for visitors at home. People of all ages can also learn about the importance of traditional cutting techniques and how they support the ongoing health of the meadow.
