Black Country youngsters can enjoy free swimming pool-based activities at the state-of-the-art Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick during the October half term.

The £60million SAC facility on Londonderry Lane, built specifically for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, is hosting on Monday 27 October, 10am - 12 noon, three exciting aquatic sports - swimming, diving and water polo - and to take part you just have to be able to swim 25metres and tread water.

These free ‘Inspired to Try’ sessions are aimed at kids aged 7 to 17, who will rotate through 35 minutes of each sport - in groups of 20-30 per sport, so catering for some 60-90 local participants.

The swimming session will feature a mini technical set with competitive starts/turns and then some relays to finish; diving will cover a range of introductory skills from varying heights, and Water Polo will concentrate on beginner skills (catching, throwing, swimming with the ball, treading water) followed by some mini-polo games.

Lizzetta Grainger, Assistant Leisure Manager at SAC, says:  “We’re committed to promoting physical health and wellbeing, but also community interaction and inclusion, so what a great way to start the half term. It will be fun and different and the Head Coaches of all three disciplines, who are some of the best in the Midlands, will also be on hand to chat with participants and their parents that are interested in joining each club.”
