From Tuesday 19 to Monday 25 May, Wolverhampton's Mander Shopping Centre will be home to one of the most unique retail experiences to hit the UK as King Colis, the French start-up that sells lost and undelivered parcels by weight, takes up residence.
Visitors have 10 minutes to select as many mystery packages as they want, without opening them, before heading to the scales to purchase. At just £2.50 per 100 grams, the parcels could contain anything from high-tech devices and designer clothing to watches, beauty products, household appliances, collectibles, and more.
Every year, millions of online orders go undelivered and once a customer receives their refund, parcels are usually destroyed. Since 2023, King Colis has been purchasing these lost packages and giving them a second life, selling them via its website and in shopping centres. To date, the business has saved more than 2,000 tonnes of undelivered parcels from destruction. Adding to its sustainability credentials, all King Colis pop-up stores are 100% eco-made.
Born during the Covid-19 lockdown when online shopping hit an all-time high, King Colis has already taken Europe by storm, with pop-ups drawing crowds across France, Italy and beyond. Following successful UK pop-ups in Bristol, Newcastle and Manchester, Wolverhampton is the next destination; bringing the treasure hunt concept to the region for the first time.
CEO and co-founder, Killian Denis, says:
"It's always exciting because you never know what you'll get; sometimes there are real treasures hidden inside the boxes. In France, one customer discovered a small collectible gold bar, while in Italy someone found an ultra-rare Pokémon card valued at £2,000. I advise anyone thinking about it to get down early, as stock is limited."
The pop-up will launch on Tuesday 19 May and will be open daily from 9.30am-5.30pm (4.30pm on Sunday), until Monday 25 May. It will be located in Mander Square, directly in front of H&M, and admission is free – and with 10 tons of lost parcels on offer, there's no shortage of potential treasure.
Laura Taylor, Marketing Manager at Mander Centre, added:
"We're always looking for fresh and exciting reasons to bring people into Mander, and King Colis is exactly that. There's nothing else quite like it on the high street right now: it's fun, it's unexpected, and we think Wolverhampton shoppers are going to love it. We can't wait to welcome them."
If you want to skip the queue, fast passes are available for £15 at king-colis.co.uk.
