ICITIES has announced that its new ice arena in Dudley will be operated under the Planet Ice brand, bringing a major new destination for ice sports and entertainment to the Black Country.

The arena will be located on Flood Street in the heart of Dudley town centre and is set to provide a modern, purpose-built home for a wide range of ice-based activities and events.

Designed to accommodate more than 2,000 spectators, the venue will feature both seated and standing viewing areas, enabling it to host elite-level ice hockey fixtures alongside public skating, community programmes and special events.

A planning application for the development is expected to be submitted in autumn 2026, with construction anticipated to commence in 2027.

A Planet Ice spokesperson said:

“Planet Ice is delighted to expand its brand legacy into the newest state-of-the-art venue as part of ICITIES’ second ice arena development. With regional demand for ice sports at an all-time high, we are proud to deliver first-class facilities and premier services. We are especially excited to make history by bringing fast-paced, top-level ice hockey to the Black Country for the very first time.”

Nick Payne, Director of ICITIES, said:

“We are pleased to announce our second arena development this year.

“After an extensive search for a new ice arena site in the West Midlands, we are delighted to have secured this prime location in the centre of Dudley. The council has been a pleasure to work with and recognises that the development will create around 50 new jobs, boosting both the local and regional economy.”

He added:

“Importantly, the development will be served by the West Midlands Metro, sitting between the Dudley Interchange and Flood Street stations. This demonstrates how the Metro expansion is helping to attract new investment and deliver valuable community facilities across the wider West Midlands region.”
