Extreme weather forecasts have led to the cancellation of a charity festival in Dudley.
Summerfest 2019 was due to take place on Sunday 16th June to help raise money for Mary Stevens Hospice. However, the recent extreme weather, which is forecast to continue into next week, has forced organisers to postpone the event in the interest of public safety and enjoyment.
Artists including Scouting For Girls and Becky Hill were due to headline the festival and they have agreed to return later in the summer to ensure the event can still go ahead in support of the Stourbridge charity.
Read the organisers' statement below -
"This isn't the post we expected to write this afternoon and, frankly, it's not an easy one.
Alongside our partners at Dudley Council and the team at Himley Hall and Park, we have sadly been forced to postpone SummerFest until later in the summer as the ground is simply unusable due to the recent flooding.
We use the word postpone deliberately. If we don't do events like this, our care isn't available to a family when they need it. That's not an option. That can't ever be an option.
So on either Sunday 28th July or Saturday 10th August, SummerFest is coming to Himley Hall for the Black Country's biggest family festival and we can't tell you what it would mean to us to see thousands of people there to support the event and to make memories with their loved ones.
As you can imagine, the work that has gone into this festival over the last 12 months has been a credit to our team here at the Hospice and all of the partners of the event who have dedicated so much time and effort to putting on a fantastic event and you know us, we're not beaten that easily.
So to everyone who has rallied so positively on such an incredibly difficult day and just got straight to work, to all of our partners who have been so accommodating and understanding in rescheduling on such short notice and to you, our beloved supporters, thank you - we hope we'll see you later in the summer for a day to remember.
If you've pre-booked tickets then please don't worry as they will be valid for the new date and if you would like a refund then of course you are entitled to one in full - contact our Fundraising team on 01384 377 778 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange your refund.
Thank you for your continued support"
