The Lord Chamberlain’s Men theatre company will be heading to Bantock House Museum and Park this summer for a performance of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’.

Set in the glorious rose garden of Bantock, theatre lovers will be able to see the play as William Shakespeare first saw it performed: in an open air setting with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.

‘Othello’ is one of Shakespeare’s tragedies and follows the Moor of Venice, a respected General in the Venetian army, who promotes the young Cassio to be his Lieutenant over Iago, a soldier in his service. In doing so, he unwittingly sparks Iago’s deep seated hatred and sets in motion a horrendous spiral of vengeance and destruction that sweeps away everyone before it. As Iago weaves his web and seeks his revenge he poisons Othello against Desdemona, who he has recently and secretly married, and turns the world upside down until Othello becomes unmoored from reality with devastating consequences.

‘Othello’ takes place on Saturday 15 August: gates open at 6pm, with the performance starting at 7pm. Adults £20 and Children £12 (plus booking fee). Book online at tlcm.co.uk, by calling the box office on 0333 666 3366 or in person from Bantock House Museum during opening hours, 12pm to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
