The New Art Gallery Walsall's free Art Library, featuring thousands of art books and resources, will reopen to the public from Wednesday 1 April.
Located on the mezzanine of the gallery, the Art Library provides a dedicated reference resource where visitors can explore a wide range of art-related materials. The collection includes around 5,000 books, exhibition catalogues and art magazines, alongside the gallery’s collection of Artists’ Publications.
The reopening follows a programme of refurbishment works designed to enhance the space, including new flooring and a series of environmental upgrades. Secondary glazing has been installed to improve insulation and minimise heat loss, helping the library maintain a comfortable temperature all year round. In addition, a new solar photovoltaic (PV) array has been installed on the roof, providing the building with a renewable source of energy.
Visitors will also have access to internet facilities and reference materials, making the library a valuable resource for artists, students, researchers and anyone with an interest in art and culture.
The gallery will also introduce revised opening hours from April 2026, including opening one hour earlier on Sundays at 11am. The Art Library will be open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
