This February Half Term, Worcester Arts Workshop has a range of family art, film and theatre to keep children happy and busy during the school holidays!
Activities kick off on Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 February with a two day Pottery Throwing & Relief course, suitable for young people aged 8- 14 years old. Across two days, participants will learn about pottery-wheel techniques and bas-relief modelling with air-drying clay.
On Tuesday 18 February, in conjunction with Worcester Film Institute, WAW hosts their first Family Film, Disney’s The Lion King (1994) at 11am. Tickets are an unbelievable 99p per child and just £3 per adult (plus booking fee). Plus, there’s a pre-film Lion King themed craft session from 10am, run by an artist tutor, for just £3 per child.
On Wednesday 19 February, young people aged 7-13 years old can take part in a one day Printmaking workshop. They’ll spend the day printmaking using monoprint and handmade block printing.
Thursday 20 February sees Family Theatre production Eggs On Legs come to the Theatre at WAW. Taking inspiration from the original wacky wordsmith, Dr Seuss, Garlic Theatre has cooked up a family puppet show all about eggs on legs. Expect moments of pure side-splitting silliness, thanks to the hand crafted puppets and comedic score. Tickets are just £10 (plus booking fee) per person for this charming family theatre performance.
Young pottery enthusiasts can enjoy a two day Figure Sculpting course on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 February, creating a human bust using slab techniques to build the sculpture and exploring details, pose and texture.
Round off the half term week, children aged 7-11 years can take part in a Shadow Puppets workshop on Friday 21 February – a wonderful way to combine a love of craft and storytelling. The Shadow Puppets workshop is a day full of drawing, collage, model making and storytelling, with the chance to share their experiences with parents at the end of the session.
Director of Transformation, Hannah Phillips said, “We are looking forward to welcoming young people and their families to WAW for a half term that’s full of creative opportunities and experiences.”
Courses run from 10am-3pm with prices from £25 for a one-day course or £50 for a two day course, with lunch options available. Online booking fees apply.
