Lichfield Cathedral has created a special exhibition of mini-installations this autumn that showcases children’s artwork and crafts alongside the stunning Gaia installation by Luke Jerram.

Gaia by Luke Jerram, a 7m diameter installation of the Earth, is on display at Lichfield Cathedral from 22 September until 5 November 2023. To run alongside this, Lichfield Cathedral is hosting a number of events, including a special exhibition of mini-installations around the Cathedral called Journey Through Creation.

The exhibition features the artwork created by children during their free summer activities and has been installed in different locations around the Cathedral in the theme of the creation account in the Bible.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see Gaia in the Nave of the Cathedral and then continue their journey around the Cathedral to discover an indoor garden space, an aquarium complete with water effect lights and an artwork depicting a crashing wave made of plant-based cellulose, recycled and bead light catchers, suspended clouds and more.

Visitors will also be able to take home with them a free booklet containing reflections and information about the exhibition.

Gregory Platten, one of the Canons at Lichfield Cathedral said: “We are really pleased to have this exhibition in the Cathedral at the same time as Luke Jerram’s impressive Gaia installation. It allows us to show off the creative work of children from our summer activities and to celebrate the Earth and the creation of this beautiful blue planet we call home I, personally, hope that when people explore the exhibition they can find a moment to reflect on their place on this Earth, their responsibility for its care, and for one another, and the love of God the Creator who made it.”
